I was given the opportunity to create a logo for the ‘Our Museum’ project for Poole Museum. The aim was to encourage a wider target audience to visit the museum; reinforcing the idea of community within Poole and to appreciate its history and culture.
The initial shape of the logo I personally designed was inspired by the structure of Poole museum. We chose a broad colour palette as the rainbow colours represent inclusivity. This was an important value in which Poole museum wished to promote through their brand and therefore we took this into consideration when designing the brand.
Using mock-ups helped to visually translate our ideas to the client. Showing them how the brand would work on out of home advertising e.g bus stops, to displaying a digital experience to the client with a website.
This was a collaborative project with Jacob Colvin and Renata Vászka. We each took the brief in 3 different directions to pitch to the client. My team's aim was to create a brand for the 'Our Museum' project that reflects the area of Poole and creates a communal platform for its visitors. We achieved this by developing 3 logos with initial inspiration from our proposition; 'Our Museum' is a dynamic community hub connecting the old and the new.
Logo 3 was shortlisted by Poole Museum which was a big achievement for my team and I. The museum directors favoured our focus on using the 4 locations to create a contemporary logo that has Poole community at the heart of its design. This project gave me real life experience and an insight into the design process for a brand. I am proud of the work we achieved within this project.
It was an exciting experience pitching to our client. We received constructive feedback directly from the client which will be extremely useful to take forward in future branding projects. As we are currently in a global pandemic, my team and I were required to pitch to a panel of 2 directors from Poole museum, over Zoom. This was a new experience for me however, I am glad to have gained this invaluable experience of working through a live brief and presenting my ideas to a client.
